PRTG Network Monitor provides comprehensive network monitoring
- Over 130 sensor types covering all aspects of network monitoring
- Uptime/Downtime Monitoring
- Bandwidth Monitoring using SNMP, WMI, NetFlow, sFlow, jFlow, Packet Sniffing
- Application monitoring
- Monitoring virtual servers
- SLA Monitoring
- QoS Monitoring (e.g. using VoIP)
- Environmental monitoring
- LAN, WAN, VPN, and Multiple Site Monitoring
- Extensive event logging
- IPv6 support
- Agent-less monitoring (optional agents (remote probes) enable even deeper level monitoring)
PRTG offers many types of sensors
PRTG is flexible Alerting
- 9 Notification Technologies: Send Email, SMS/Pager, Syslog and SNMP Trap, HTTP Request, Event Log Entry, Play Sound Files, Amazon SNS, Any External Technology that can be called by EXE or .BAT file
- Status notifications (up, down, warning)
- Limit Alerts (Above/Below x Value)
- Threshold alarms (above/below x for y minutes)
- Multiple alert status (x and y are down)
- Alarm escalation (additional notifications every x minutes during downtime)
- Dependencies (avoid alarm flood)
- Alerts received for notification (no more sending of notes for this alarm)
- Alarm scheduling (no low priority alarms at night)

Distributed monitoring in PRTG using remote probes
The so-called PRTG Network Monitor Remote Probes can be used to monitor networks in a variety of locations:
- Monitoring of all subsidiaries of the headquarters
- Monitoring of separate networks within a company (e.g. DMZ and LAN)
- As an MSP, you can monitor your customers' networks and improve service quality
All you need is one central PRTG Server Core installation. Every PRTG license includes unlimited remote sensors.
Publishing data and maps
- Real-time dashboards with up-to-date performance and status data
- Private and public dashboards: e.g. screens for network operations centers or maps with at-a-glance information for other employees
-
Interactive map designer 300+ different map objects (Network icons, status icons, traffic graphs, top 10 lists, etc.)

PRTG Network Monitor provides failover clustering
- In PRTG, a cluster of up to 5 PRTG instances ("Nodes") work together to create a fail-safe monitoring system.
- Even a software update does not cause downtime for the PRTG cluster.
- The cluster performs automatic failover: If the primary node fails or loses connection to the cluster, another node immediately becomes the master server and takes over sending notifications. This way notifications are always sent even if the primary master is down or corrupted. In addition , you can get multi-point - presence monitoring , all nodes monitor all sensors all the time. This means that the response time is measured from different places in the local network (LAN / WAN / VPN ) and can be compared with each other . Additionally , aggregated wake-up/ downtime times can be calculated.
- And here comes the best part: All PRTG licenses allow you to create "Single Failover" installations (two PRTG installations working together) with a single license key (additional keys are required for 3 or more nodes).
Attention: Remote probes can only be connected to one cluster node.
